A Mini-Retreat to Help You Live Out the Gospel in Your Everyday Life

“If I know the gospel is true… then why do I keep getting so stuck in this one area of my life?

We long to believe the gospel in ways that transform us deeply – but too often, our day-to-day experience doesn’t match up between who we really are and who we want to be or know we should be.

Our external personable ministry with others doesn’t line up with our internal stressed-out world.

Our counsel is sought on all sorts of biblical issues, yet we secretly struggle with a lack of love for our teammates.

Or, we just don’t feel like we are adopted children of God because life is just hard – and we are exhausted.

Our best efforts always seem to lead to a preoccupation with self, frustration, and joylessness.

Come and rediscover God’s grace at Gospel-Centered Life Weekend – a Serge mini-retreat.

We will explore how God desires to use the ups and downs of our daily life to draw us into a closer relationship with Him, make us more like Jesus, and extend His love to a broken and needy world.

While this event is based on themes from Serge’s The Gospel-Centered Life study guide, this teaching will go much deeper and beyond the book.

Whether your church has already gone through the curriculum in the past, or you’re interested in introducing your church to the curriculum for the first time – this event is for you!

Saturday, October 26, 2024 (8:30am-4:45pm)

Speakers

Associate Area Director for Renewal

Marc Davis

Marc grew up at New Life Church in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, in the years when Serge (formerly World Harvest Mission) was being launched. During those years, he saw people being transformed by the gospel of grace, and that same grace got hold of him, too. Marc and his wife Susan met at the University of Virginia and married in 1992. After three years on Intervarsity staff, he completed an M.Div. from Westminster Seminary in 1997. Marc is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church in America and served on the pastoral staff at New Life Church (now Glenside) for 12 years. Marc joined Serge’s Renewal team in 2019 as Global Learning Program Leader. In that role, he is excited to see missionaries, pastors, and others involved in ministry empowered by the gospel to live lives of great freedom in dependence on Jesus for everything. Marc and Susan have three children: Nathaniel, Maggie, and Owen. You can reach him at: mdavis@serge.org.
Serge Mentor and Coach

Eric Brauer

Eric Brauer serves as a Renewal Specialist at Serge, primarily focused on mentoring church leaders, fostering international renewal with Serge teams overseas, and coaching Serge workers mentoring national church planters. Before this, he and his wife Karen spent over 30 years serving overseas with Serge, initially in the Republic of Ireland coaching and mentoring Irish church leaders and then in Germany/Austria overseeing Serge’s teams and coaching national church planters throughout Central Europe. Eric and Karen were first introduced to Serge when they went through the Sonship course at New Life Church while Eric was a student at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. He and Karen now live in Greenville, SC. They have been married since 1980 and have seven adult children and nine grandchildren, living in four different countries across three continents. You can reach him at: ebrauer@serge.org.
Renewal Media Program Leader

Jim Lovelady

Jim is a Sonship Mentor and Discipleship Lab cohort leader. He also serves as the Media Director for the Renewal team and hosts Serge's Grace at the Fray podcast. Originally from Texas, he first encountered Serge in Spain while serving as a CRU missionary with his wife, Lori. After graduating in 2009 from Westminster Theological Seminary (MDiv) and being ordained (PCA), Jim served as a pastor and worship leader at several churches while Lori worked in Serge’s Finance department. Going through Serge's Sonship program was life-changing for Jim, and it awoke his passion for guiding burned-out missionaries and pastors back to the joy of their salvation and daily dependence on—and fellowship with—their Savior. Jim, Lori, and their three kids live near the Serge office outside Philadelphia.

What Others Are Saying

“It is so easy to forget the music of the Gospel and the Gospel-Centred Life Weekend was like a concert for my soul. My tendency is to put my faith on cruise control, but when I do that, I minimize and end up with a small Jesus, small cross and small sin. The weekend made all these large again for me.”

GCL Weekend Participant

“The clear presentation of gospel, with concrete life experiences and examples helped me hear it (the gospel) in fresh and renewing ways. I left the mini-retreat strengthened, joyful and peaceful.”

GCL Weekend Participant

“This retreat helped me realize, in new ways, how I can acknowledge ways I need to grow without shame because of what Christ accomplished on my behalf through His person and work. Also, I was reminded to surrender both my best and worst of efforts to Christ, while at the same time letting him take care of my reputation.”
