Third Culture Kid Specialist

The East/Central Africa Regional Resource Team is seeking a Third Culture Kid (TCK) Specialist to serve Serge children and families in East/Central Africa. This role will seek to offer spiritual, social, and educational support to TCK’s and parents across the region. Additionally, this role will work alongside team leaders to identify a local population to serve with their skillset and background.

Responsibilities:

• Build individual relationships with Serge workers and children in the region to develop trust
• Respond in-person or virtually to crisis events involving children as needed
• Collaborate closely with Debbie Harrell and the TCK Team, staying up to date with their initiatives and programming
• Collaborate with member care associates, area leadership, and company leadership as needed in caring for children and families
• Grow in understanding of the contexts teams work in and the unique TCK needs of the area
• Collaborate and lead children’s programming for both team and area-wide retreats as requested
• Facilitate and lead short-term groups visiting area teams for child enrichment activities
• Assist in providing resources for child protection, education, cultural adjustment, and common TCK issues
• Assist leaders with strategic initiatives to provide families with resources
• Review and evaluate curricula for use in home-schooling situations and assist in adaptation to local needs
• Research and provide information to families with special educational needs
• Provide consistent, pro-active support to missionaries through email and calls, and make team visits as needed
• Act as a proctor for annual standardized testing as requested

Requirements and Critical Qualities:

• Bachelors Degree in Education (highly preferred)
• 2+ years teaching experience (highly preferred)
• Willingness and ability to travel to remote, developing areas across East/Central Africa
• Willingness to work in a team environment
• Willingness to work collaboratively across countries & continents
• Experience leading or supporting large events for children (e.g. VBS)
• Minimum one year of experience living overseas (preferred)
