Counselor – East/Central Africa

The East/Central Africa Regional Resource Team is seeking two counselors, one male and one female, to serve Serge workers through preventative and reactive care. These roles will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, offering better access to the teams Serge serves. The counselors will use their skills to offer preventative mental and emotional health care while also offering care in the direct aftermath of a crisis event through triage mental health care. By partnering with US based Member Care Associates and Team Leaders on the ground, these roles will play a pivotal role in supporting Serge workers in the region. Additionally, these roles will work alongside team leaders to identify a local population to serve with their skillset and experience.

Responsibilities:

• Serve the East/Central Africa region with a counseling and training skillset
• Build individual relationships with Serge workers in the region to develop trust
• Offer a “weekend intensive” type of events for Serge workers and others
• Be prepared to respond in person or virtually to crisis events as they happen 
• Collaborate with member care associates, area leadership, and company leadership as needed
• Grow in understanding of the contexts the teams work in and their unique needs
• Develop a network of organizations and individuals for partnership and collaboration
• Develop the needed skills to serve the great East/Central Africa region through debriefing and conflict mediation
• Discern and develop a local area of ministry using counseling and teaching skills that will serve the local population in need
• Develop relationships with local counseling organizations to see if there are any areas for collaboration and general learning
• Work on language and cultural acquisition

Requirements and Critical Qualities:

• Masters Degree in Counseling
• Ability and willingness to travel to remote, developing areas on short notice
• Desire to work in a team environment
• Willingness to relocate to Nairobi, Kenya
• 5+ years of counseling experience (preferred)
• Minimum one-year living internationally (preferred)
• Minimum one-year counseling missionaries (preferred)

The person in this role raises their full financial support for salary, ministry expenses, and benefits.
When you are appointed to go with Serge, you are assigned a support coach who will guide you step-by-step through the entire support-raising process.
