Teaching Assistant/Medical Vocational Intern – Chogoria, Kenya

The Serge team in Chogoria, Kenya works at the PCEA Chogoria Mission Hospital in the rural foothills of Mt. Kenya. Their desire is to see Christian African medical workers trained and discipled so they will be equipped to carry the Gospel to far-reaching places across East Africa. 

The team’s children are on this journey as well and are a vital part of the team’s ministry. They’ve grown to (3 family units), and find themselves needing supplementary help in the form of teachers and teacher assistants. 

These families live very inter-connectedly within their Kenyan community. They would ideally like two individuals to come and share a living space and provide camaraderie for one another as they serve and minister alongside the team in the community.

Internship dates: August 2024 – June 2025

Responsibilites:

This role would primarily support the homeschooling families of the Chogoria Mission Hospital. The supportive responsibilities would include, but are not limited to, helping students with:

• 7th Grade Common Core classwork – including Math, Writing, Reading, History, and Science.
• Specials / Extracurriculars – PE, Art, and music
• Tutoring assistance needed for 1-4th grade
• Supplementary help for kids with learning differences

Requirements and Critical Qualities:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred (priority given to a degree in teaching)
• Overseas experience preferred
• Experience working in children’s or youth ministry
• Experience working on a team
• Familiarity with homeschooling philosophy and methods
• Actively involved in church ministry
• Independent and self-motivated
• Willingness to receive positive feedback and constructive criticism
• Willingness to raise personal support
• Medical clearance from a general practitioner
