Bringing Healing and Hope

Because we live in a broken world, at some point we all experience pain and suffering. In these moments, we are more open to hearing from God.

As C.S. Lewis has written, “God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pain: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”

Serge missionaries who are trained as Christian counselors recognize that God calls us to serve from a place of neediness and brokenness. Through that posture of humility, we seek to meet hurting people in their pain and provide a glimpse of the hope found in the gospel.

Types of counseling include:

  • Individual
  • Marriage
  • Family
  • Adolescents

Serving the Church and Community

Offering a Glimpse of the Gospel to Non-Believers

People with no faith to speak of may seek out counseling for a range of personal hardships – from anxiety and depression to serious illness or the loss of the loved one. In many cases, these kinds of suffering lead to deeper conversations about Jesus, the Bible, and Christianity. Serge counseling missionaries serve in the face of real need – often with immigrant populations that lack support services and are frequently victims of war, sexual slavery, or abuse – and they have regular opportunities to meet with hard-to-reach populations of non-believers.

Supporting Healthy Churches and Healthy Christians

We believe that healthy Christians and healthy churches are the brightest lights in their community. We are the best witnesses when our lives—the good, the bad, and the hard—are lived in a manner worthy of the gospel.  Serge Counselors meet with believers in the church –  as well as local church leaders – to encourage them in their struggles, provide biblical principles and strategies, and walk with them in the ongoing process of discipleship.

Supporting and Encouraging Missionaries

No one said missionary life is easy. Serge counselors provide vital care for Serge workers on the field – providing counseling, crisis care, conflict resolution, and debriefing to help missionaries navigate difficult circumstances on the field and flourish in their calling.

How the Work Gets Done

We Work in Teams

Serge prioritizes sending missionaries as teams. Teams provide workers with a community of shared experience, corporate prayer and worship, and the strength of working cross-culturally together.

Transparent Discipleship

We place a great importance on real and transparent discipleship. Our staff share their own lives and struggles with others. Because we’re honest about our faults, those we counsel and disciple are free to be honest about their struggles as well. This makes room for an open dialogue where the Holy Spirit and Scripture can inform lives and help us live out our union with God.

We Want Your Ministry to Be Sustainable

Serge counselors continually serve in the face of real need. We recognize the danger of burnout, so we work to provide our staff with emotional, mental, and spiritual encouragement, guidance, and respite. We want our staff to find an identity as a son or daughter of God first and as a counselor second.

We Are Rooted in the Gospel

Serge takes a gospel-based approach in all ministry. We are missional, grace-centered, and kingdom-minded. This framework is a guiding light for our counselors, who seek to serve believers and unbelievers alike with the hope of the gospel. This also ensures that we work with the intention of growing God’s kingdom and sharing His glory.
