Eye Care Professional (Vocational Intern)

In partnership with the Rwanda International Institute of Ophthalmology (RIIO), the Serge Kigali team is training the next generation of African ophthalmologists to provide high quality, sight-restoring clinical and surgical care in underserved areas. With less than 25 ophthalmologists for a country of 13 million people, the need for more eye surgeons in Rwanda (and the surrounding region) is critical in order to address blindness caused by cataract, glaucoma, trauma, and other eye diseases. The goal is to empower Africans to be the hands and feet of Jesus for the blind by training, mentoring, and equipping eye care professionals. 

This role is a one-year appointment beginning in January 2026

Responsibilities:

• Train ophthalmology residents at RIIO in the 4-year program to be excellent clinicians and surgeons
• Teach and supervise residents in the classroom and wet lab 
• Mentor residents during regular Bible study 
• Equip ophthalmologists in the region with the necessary equipment & supplies needed to provide high quality services
