Dean of the Faculty of Medicine – DR Congo

The Serge team in DR Congo is looking for someone to serve as Dean of the University of Shalom Medical School in Bunia. Congo requires an expat Dean to be an MD who has prior experience as a professor of medicine.

We believe in improving Congolese medical education and working closely with the medical school – and we are desperately in need of someone to fulfill this role.

Responsibilites:

This role would be the chair of The Faculty Council, which is responsible for:

• Deliberating on all matters of interest to the Faculty and the training of
  students to ensure the proper functioning of education
• Planning the training of academic and scientific personnel
• Ensuring the execution of the decisions of the Faculty Council
• Preparing budget forecasts and budget breakdowns with department heads
• Developing the agenda for Faculty Council meetings
• Ensuring the proper functioning of the Departments
• In emergencies, taking any measure within the competence of the Faculty Council and informing them at the next meeting
• Approving schedules prepared by the Faculty Academic Secretary
• Advising on absences of academic and scientific staff
• Distributing and collecting course report cards each semester
• Signing the certificates of achievement at the end of the academic year in accordance with the results of the jury’s deliberation

Requirements and Critical Qualities:

• MD and Speciality Training
• Prior academic appointment as a professor in medical education
• French-speaking
• Experience in academic leadership
