Physician—Various Specialties – Malawi

Nkhoma Mission Hospital is a 300-bed hospital that is being transformed into a teaching hospital. It currently has a General Surgery residency through PAACS and a Family Medicine residency under Kamuzu University of Health Sciences in Malawi. These residencies are increasing the standard of care and services offered at the hospital, but more specialists are needed to support this capacity and improve the quality of the training programs, and one of the team goals is to build up the local capacity for excellent medical care entwined with compassionate spiritual leadership.

The Serge Malawi team is in need of physicians in Anesthesiology, Orthopedic Surgery, OB/Gyn, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neonatology, and Pediatrics. They are looking to welcome like-minded physicians who are excited to train and disciple Malawian resident physicians, serving in a long-term capacity.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as a teaching consultant with the PAACS and Family Medicine residency programs at Nkhoma Mission Hospital
• Provide medical and/or surgical care for patients 
• Provide didactic and clinical teaching to medical students, residents, and other health professional trainees during their rotations 
• Engage actively in the discipleship of residents
• Pursue opportunities to share the gospel with patients and staff
• Support and encourage the Serge Malawi team by actively participating in team life, seeking opportunities to serve the team using gifts and talents

Requirements and Critical Qualities:

• Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to work with cultural humility & patience in a resource-limited environment
• Active Board Certification in specialty
• Active medical license
• Commitment to Jesus Christ and the global expansion of His Kingdom
• Call to missional living and a desire to engage with the team in fulfilling its vision
• Devotion to prayer, personal repentance, and renewal as the motive and power for mission
• Commitment to Serge’s core values, demonstrated in work and interactions
• An ability to work effectively with a team and practice healthy conflict resolution

The person in this role raises their full financial support for salary, ministry expenses, and benefits.
When you are appointed to go with Serge, you are assigned a support coach who will guide you step-by-step through the entire support-raising process.
