Abbie Nelson is a family nurse practitioner working in a small clinic in the community surrounding the garbage dump in Guatemala City. She runs a chronic disease program for adults suffering from diabetes and heart disease. In her spare time, she parents three daughters, cooks dinner, gardens and climbs hills with her stupid but loyal dog, Otto. Her literary influences include JRR Tolkein, Anne Lamott, Thomas Merton, and Saturday Night Live.
