Stephen and Karis met in Nairobi, Kenya in the fall of 2008 when Karis was with World Harvest Mission for an 8-month internship program and Stephen was doing soccer ministry with Ambassadors in Sport. The two tied the knot on April 30th, 2011 and joined the team in Nairobi, Kenya in 2012 where they have served since. They have a daughter named Abigail who was born in September 2016. In May 2016, they stepped into the role of Team Leaders, where they serve the team by helping team members engage in meaningful ministry while navigating cross-cultural living well.
Additionally, Stephen is the National Director for Ambassadors Football Kenya, an organization that communicates the good news of Jesus through local soccer (football) outreach. His passion for leadership development, spreading the gospel and using soccer as a ministry tool come together in this role as he seeks to see a movement of empowered coaches and churches transforming lives of players throughout Kenya.
Karis has a heart for relational ministry and missions, which are expressed through her leading the summer internship and apprenticeship programs. She was the Internship Coordinator for the Nairobi team since 2012, but she recently turned over that role to another team member, Heather Wallace, as she steps into the role of Apprenticeship Leader. She is currently preparing to host the first group of apprentices for 15 months starting in January of 2019.
Together Stephen and Karis share a love for leadership development, mentorship of young adults, encouraging others in the gospel, and Kenya! They love their local church, their small group, their community of friends, and co-workers who have been a family for them over the past years.
