Where We Serve
Litein is a small rural town in the beautiful, lush highlands of western Kenya, about a half a day’s drive from Nairobi, the nation’s capital.
With an estimated population of 2,300, Litein is a busy hub in the fertile South Rift Valley. Many residents work as farmers of tea, corn, and livestock.
One hundred years ago, the average life expectancy in the United States was about 60 years old. Today, Litein, Kenya has only just exceeded this average.
Many people in Litein and the surrounding areas struggle to have adequate access to health care. This is particularly true for any kind of specialized medical care, as most local physicians do not have the opportunity to pursue a specialty.
The Serge Team in Litein seeks to be agents of God’s redemption and restoration in the world through physical and spiritual healing. They look to the Holy Spirit to transform lives, communities, even countries, with the truth and hope of the gospel and the ministry of medicine.
What We Do in Litein
The Serge team in Litein is bringing much-needed specialty care to patients.
Team members bridge the gap for Kenyan families by providing specialized health and preventive care in internal medicine, pediatrics, emergency medicine, and nutrition.
The goal is a multi-faceted approach to greatly improve the state of healthcare in the region, enabling members of the local community to live longer, more abundant lives, and to partner with and empower African healthcare providers to change their world.
The team trains physician interns and physician assistant interns, who would otherwise not have the opportunity to learn from specialists.
Under the training and discipleship of Serge staff, trainees rotate through the major specialties of pediatrics, internal medicine, surgery, and OB-GYN. With the coming of specialists to Litein, the Kabarak University Family Medicine Residency Program will also begin sending residents to train at the hospital.
The Kabarak program involves deep and broad training across multiple specialties with an emphasis on scholarship, leadership, and discipleship.
The goal is to disciple and train Christian African physicians to become beacons of hope and healing across Sub-Saharan Africa.
