A Mini-Retreat to Help You Live Out the Gospel in Your Everyday Life

“If I know the gospel is true… then why do I keep getting so stuck in this one area of my life?

We long to believe the gospel in ways that transform us deeply – but too often, our day-to-day experience doesn’t match up between who we really are and who we want to be or know we should be.

Our external personable ministry with others doesn’t line up with our internal stressed-out world.

Our counsel is sought on all sorts of biblical issues, yet we secretly struggle with a lack of love for our teammates.

Or, we just don’t feel like we are adopted children of God because life is just hard – and we are exhausted.

Our best efforts always seem to lead to a preoccupation with self, frustration, and joylessness.

Come and rediscover God’s grace at Gospel-Centered Life Weekend – a Serge mini-retreat.

We will explore how God desires to use the ups and downs of our daily life to draw us into a closer relationship with Him, make us more like Jesus, and extend His love to a broken and needy world.

While this event is based on themes from Serge’s The Gospel-Centered Life study guide, this teaching will go much deeper and beyond the book.

Whether your church has already gone through the curriculum in the past, or you’re interested in introducing your church to the curriculum for the first time – this event is for you!

Serge's Global Learning Program Leader

Marc Davis

Marc grew up at New Life Church in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, in the years when Serge (formerly World Harvest Mission) was being launched. During those years, he saw people being transformed by the gospel of grace, and that same grace got hold of him, too. Marc and his wife Susan met at the University of Virginia and married in 1992. After three years on Intervarsity staff, he completed an M.Div. from Westminster Seminary in 1997. Marc is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church in America and served on the pastoral staff at New Life Church (now Glenside) for 12 years. Marc joined Serge’s Renewal team in 2019 as Global Learning Program Leader. In that role, he is excited to see missionaries, pastors, and others involved in ministry empowered by the gospel to live lives of great freedom in dependence on Jesus for everything. Marc and Susan have three children: Nathaniel, Maggie, and Owen. You can reach him at:
Sonship Mentor and Long-Term Recruiter for Serge

Emily Shrader

Emily Shrader serves as a Renewal Specialist and Long-Term Recruiter for Serge. She and her husband, David, and their 3 children, Mae, Wesley and Miriam, served with Serge in North Africa for more than a decade. Emily has a bachelor's degree in Biblical and Theological Studies and Youth Ministry from Gordon College and has studied Biblical Counseling with Christian Counseling and Education Foundation. Before leaving for the field, Emily worked in youth and campus ministry, participated in Community Bible Study Leadership and partnered with David as he pastored a small, inner-city church in Pittsburgh. While in North Africa, Emily worked alongside David as he pastored an International Fellowship and trained local pastors. She and her family currently reside in Goldsboro, NC where her husband David serves as a chaplain in the USAF.
Renewal Specialist for Bible Storying at Serge

George Mixon

George serves as Renewal Specialist for Bible Storying at Serge. Before this, he and his wife Martha served as missionaries in Kenya for almost three decades—first as a veterinarian among the Maasai people, and later with Serge, training Kenyan leaders in Chronological Bible Storying (CBS) and leading a team that helps pastors and church leaders use Bible stories in their evangelism and discipleship ministries. They also developed a Bible storying version of the Sonship curriculum for primary oral learners. He and Martha now work remotely from Milledgeville, GA. George makes several trips annually to Kenya, supporting Serge teams in incorporating Bible storying into their gospel-centered ministries. George and Martha have five children and one granddaughter. What Others Are Saying

“It is so easy to forget the music of the Gospel and the Gospel-Centred Life Weekend was like a concert for my soul. My tendency is to put my faith on cruise control, but when I do that, I minimize and end up with a small Jesus, small cross and small sin. The weekend made all these large again for me.”

GCL Weekend Participant

“The clear presentation of gospel, with concrete life experiences and examples helped me hear it (the gospel) in fresh and renewing ways. I left the mini-retreat strengthened, joyful and peaceful.”

GCL Weekend Participant

“This retreat helped me realize, in new ways, how I can acknowledge ways I need to grow without shame because of what Christ accomplished on my behalf through His person and work. Also, I was reminded to surrender both my best and worst of efforts to Christ, while at the same time letting him take care of my reputation.”
