Childcare Worker (Vocational Intern) – North Africa

A Serge team in North Africa is seeking a Childcare Worker Vocational Intern to support missionary families by caring for, tutoring, and discipling their children. This vocational internship provides an opportunity to work and learn alongside the team in an urban area of North Africa.

Internship Dates: September 3, 2023 – November 8, 2023.

The Context:

North Africa is one of the least-reached regions in the world, with less than 0.5 percent of the population believing in Jesus. Despite an environment of spiritual oppression, Serge missionaries are working to spread the gospel of God’s grace and establish His kingdom in the region. They do this by establishing sustainable businesses for transformation that foster relationships and provide opportunities to model and share grace. This work has led to both spiritual and economical transformation in the community and the establishment of indigenously led, reproducing churches.

Some of the newer families on this team are also doing intensive language study during their first years of this work. This vocational internship role would primarily support Serge missionary families by caring for, tutoring, and discipling their children while they work and learn the local language.

Collectively, the team has 6 children ranging from 5 months to 11 years old. The ideal candidate will have a heart for ministry, a desire to learn and grow in their faith, and a willingness to share their living space with a fellow intern as they serve the team and work alongside them in their community.

Responsibilites:

The supportive responsibilities and opportunities would include, but are not limited to:

• Spending roughly 20 hours per week caring for the team children, tutoring the older children, and leading Bible learning lessons and activities for the children once or twice a week
• Gaining experience living out their faith through legitimate vocation in a
  creative-access context
• Being mentored in the gospel and in cross-cultural work
• Gaining a deeper understanding of God’s work in the Arabic-speaking world
• Studying the local Arabic dialect to begin communicating and building relationships in the community
• Exploring vocation, gifting, passions in ministry, and principles for sharing the gospel in this context through relationships
• Participating in team life with a view to understanding the important role of the local community

Requirements and Critical Qualities:

• Must be a Christian with an active walk with the Lord and the desire to grow in their understanding of the Gospel at work in their life.
• Interested in learning the nuances and challenges of Third Culture Kids’ lived
  experiences and have experience working with children from early childhood to
  elementary
• Cross-culturally sensitive, with a heart for kingdom work in least-reached regions, and interested in exploring this type of work vocationally
• Mature, flexible, independent, self-motivated, and willing to take initiative
• 20+ years old
• Preferably a Spanish language speaker
